 Still loving my Lucchese's!

When I went home for Thanksgiving, my two goals were to get a mani/pedi and to stock up on blog photos.
Ya know what I did?
A lot.
Did I do either of the things I set out to do?
Is this blog post over due? (Resorting to New York photos here)
But like Kendi said, "better late, than naked."

Tasha Polizzi coat (to be featured later)

Two things I DID accomplish on Thanksgiving break:
1) Black Friday shopping madness with Mom and
2) shooting this monster with my Dad....

If you don't like it.... sorry, but "southern style by Haleigh" should have been your warning.
I'm still excited and still proud and hopefully I can do it with my bow next year!

America's Museum of Natural History

So many reasons to love this post......
It's not every day that I get to do blog pictures in Central Park and the Museum of Natural History!

Secondly, I am wearing all my favorite brands, all smashed together-- Free People, Anthro, Lucchese, Urban, and Sakroots.
(And I just so happen to be looking at URBN INC. for internships..... HEY! HI! Notice me?!)

Third, I am so happy to say I wore these boots every single, non-stop day in the city and they NEVER hurt my feet.  Also, the beautiful, light, peanut-brittle color makes them easy to match with everything.  Lucchese, you never let me down!

HNC goes to NYC, Round 2

I hope you all are prepared to look at a million (ok, about 30) pictures of my New York trip!

On Wednesday, we took a flight out way too early from Charlotte to Laguardia.
(Thank you Austin, for the neck pillow for the flight... you are always so thoughtful :) )
Shopped, napped, and ate all day long until our group dinner in Times Square....

..... where it was pouring snow!
(Had to get the classic "snowing in Time Square" picture)!
I also found it funny that later in the week all the New Yorkers would ask "Were you here for the blizzard?"
And I just wanted to be like "You call that slush a blizzard?!"
I will give them the benefit of the doubt that they were still dealing with post-trauma from Sandy.

On Thursday, we went on four professional visits to Calvin Klein flagship (retail), RJM group (showroom), Bibhu Mohapatra (designer), and to Harper's Bazaar (I shouldn't have to explain this one to you)!
My personal favorite was Bibhu's.... he was so talented and down-to-earth and full of advice--and his workspace was awesome!
Here, me and Jordan are waiting like giddy school girls to go up to Harper's.

It was like a 24th floor dream.
We got to meet the assistant editor, Lisa Luna, and spend an hour with her, drilling her with questions!

Got some real New York style pizza for lunch that day......

....and some Starbucks, because the day was only halfway over!

Before our broadway show at 8, we went to Rockfeller Plaza to do some shopping, and some gawking at how B E A U T I F U L Free People's flagship store was. (I was in HEAVEN).

The hangers were beautiful....

The decor was beautiful....

The Christmas set-up was beautiful.....
(Hey Mom.... am I due for a new stocking?)

The walls were beautiful....

The lights were beautiful....

The dressing rooms were beautiful....

This bench in the dressing room area was beautiful....

The floors.....

Ahhh. I love Free People.

Later that night, we went to see THE LION KING on Broadway! It was fantastic, and I wish we could take pictures, but this is the only one I have for you.
Then we slept like babies.

The next morning we had a broadway workshop with these two lovely men that have worked on Annie, Phantom of the Opera, a couple others I can't remember, and were currently working on the set of Scandalous.
Jordan and I took turns doing quick changes as Carlotta.

We also got to learn a lot about what happens to costumes after the show is over, how much they cost to make, how and how often the get washed, how the dressing assistants know where to be and how they get on and off stage so quickly...... and more. We learned a lot!

Later that afternoon we got to go on a Harbor Cruise and see some of New York's historical landmarks.

Like the Statue of Liberty, shown at the beginning of the post.

That night, Jordan and I went to see her big sister in her sorority, who now lives in New York doing freelance PR work.
(And just finished up with the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, might I add)!
We went to this awesome little Italian restaurant that was below her apartment, and afterwards we went up to her room to see the view and go cupcakes from the cupcake shop next door.
Great view, right?

Is it bad that the thing I miss most about New York is the cupcakes?
Don't answer that.

The next day, Jordan and I went to the Museum of Natural History, which was incredible!
Pictures don't do it justice.
The turtles were my favorite, of course.
Take a second to notice Jordan on the other side of the bottom turtle..... that was a BIG turtle!

And who can resist the mystery of dinosaurs?

If you're ever in New York, the museum is definitely worth a visit.
The rest of the evening we spent in Central Park, shopping in SoHo, and celebrating our friend-iversary by eating dinner in Chinatown

Then got up way too early the next morning for the flight back home.

But I AM glad to be home.

BIG BIG thank you to my parents, grandparents, and Colleen who helped fund my happy-fun-time (and educational experiences, of course) in the big apple.  Lord knows I would have been too broke to go without you!

Until we meet again, New York....

Edgy yet Polished

As promised.... a real outfit post!
If you only knew how long I've had these photos in my archives (my faux-pro[fessional] word for an album in my iPhoto library).

Earrings from Claire's/ Urban Outfitters graphic tank/ Silence + Noise blazer/ Free People jeans/ Rhinestone bracelet from Target/ Lucky Brand snake ring/ Shoe Dazzle shoes

(Maybe my favorite graphic tank ever).

I don't know if you can catch me further out of my comfort zone... structured (the blazer) AND heels (gasp! not boots!) that are at least half a size too small and totally slick on the bottom. Yikes!
But for the love of fashion, I have to venture out and get funky every once and a while.
I am happy to say I get to go to New York Wednesday morning and I am hoping to have lots of great things to share with you when I get back (like my trip to Harper's Bazaar and The Lion King on Broadway)!
Hopefully, I'll get to see New York healing as a city from Hurricane Sandy as well.
See you post-NYC!
