Out Of My Element

Cardigan from Belk/ Kim Taylor button-up/ Chico's Outlet belt

7 For All Mankind jeans/ Madden girl boots

Usually a button-up would not be my go-to look in my closet... too preppy.... too structured.  BUT paired with this comfy ruffle cardigan and waist belt, I think it's just right.  Plus, I really loved the color combination.  Maybe button-ups aren't so scary after all.

My Happy Place

Blowfish boots/ Skinny jeans from Lucky Penny/ Elle sweater

Lucky Brand earrings, necklace, and ring/ Leather wrap bracelet from Vintage Moon- Asheville, NC

That bag?  I made it from Amy Butler's Reversible Shopper pattern!

This post is especially near and dear to my heart because it features my two happy places..... 1) when I'm sewing (hence the bag) and 2) by the water (preferably the lake, but this creek will do, for now).  Other happy places might include Downtown Asheville, Starbucks, and getting my feet rubbed.  Oh yes.  Having such a fast-pace life while being a student, a part-time worker, a long-distance girlfriend, a club president, a fashion blogger, etc. it is important to have those places where I can take time to relax and draw inspiration.  It's important for anyone.  It's only Monday (uuuggghhh) so I hope that you get time to visit YOUR happy place sometime this week :)

"Cold" Would Be An Understatement

Columbia coat/ J. Crew shirt/ Coach purse/ Skinny jeans, hat, scarf, and earrings from Lucky Penny
I swear this wasn't a pose! This is "I'M FREEZING, but I had to take my coat off so you could see my shirt..... for fashion's sake!"

Photo credit: a cold and sassy Austin

This day was 19 degrees with 35mph winds that made it "feel like" 2 degrees.... in other words, really cold!  However, the exciting background of freshly fallen snow and the adorable hat I had gotten from Lucky Penny the day before was enough to drive me out into the cold.  These pictures confirm two things: that I am still obsessed with the orange/navy color combination and that I need to invest in some self tanner.  Is it summer yet?

Things To Do With Scrap Fabric, Part Three

I learned how I make this little pin cushion jar from The Cottage Home.  I added the ribbon around the rim of the lid as my own personal touch :)

Another project that I found that is great for scrap fabric, is Reverse Applique... a tutorial from Sweet Verbena.
This was my first attempt.  An outline of North Carolina with a heart stitched over Asheville.  I was pretty excited about how it turned out.

So it took it to the next level and used reverse applique on a pocket pillow I made for Austin for Christmas.  You can find the tutorial for the pocket pillow HERE.

Let's just say that deer antlers are way more complicated than the outline of NC.

Happy crafting :)

PS- Special THANKS to Austin's mom, Colleen, for taking these pillow pictures.

He's A Keeper

Earrings, Necklace and Shawl from Chico's Outlet

Delia's turtleneck/ J.Crew skinny jeans

Madden Girl boots

Austin was my stand-in photographer for this one.  Not only was he a good sport, but I even got him to strike a pose.  Look out Calvin Klein models. Not to mention, he can cook a mean crock pot of chicken chili (recipe found via Pinterest).  He's a keeper.
